Can you tell which one contains the most green value? Blue is said to be the most universally popular color and as water covers 70% of the planet’s surface it has always been significant. With rising sea levels and the need to protect our oceans we are moving towards the Blue Economy. So much can be learned from studying the sea.

Where else is blue found? From cool blue lavender fields and medicinal plants in a healing garden to color signatures in essential oils which are not “seen” but experienced. Of course the coastal style includes nautical accents such as blue and white striped curtains and chair coverings.

Enjoy your summer blues and in choosing your palette consider whether you want refreshment or calm in your indoor and outdoor spaces.

Whether it’s choosing a fresh coat of paint or undertaking a full scale home renovation project, creating a cohesive colour palette for your project must be a top consideration. So as we welcome Spring with longer days and greater access to daylight, consider how your seasonal colour preferences can change…Take the following steps to realize your Colour Palette

  • Close your eyes and count to the number one to come to a place of stillness. In a few moments think of the first colour that comes to mind and then a second. Record the results.

  • What project is your current priority? What kind of space - active living areas or relaxation/meditation/sleep? Interiors or outdoors?

  • Are either of your colour preferences already present - in walls, textiles, furnishings, flooring, accessories etc?

  • Write a description of your plan and what vision you have for the finished project. Itemize the action steps needed and note which aspects will require extra consultation, estimated budget and realistic timelines.

  • Remember, it’s not strictly about how the space will “look” but how you will feel and function.

  • About this year’s colour trends - green is becoming a favourite of paint companies. However, you can “green” your space in a variety of ways: installing plants, use of certain organic essential oils, and always specifying the most eco friendly elements from fabrics, flooring, wall coverings, furniture and more. Colour is a personal choice and responds to the mood and atmosphere of your interior and exterior living spaces.
