To enable your Creative Spirit...at home
During Covid. which has resulted in the trend for working at home, much discussion has been around designing home offices and personal gyms. Yet living well by design should also extend to making some space for creative pursuits. Whether you are an artist/artisan, writer, composer, musician etc you need a dedicated space. In expressing your creativity which draws upon your imagination it is important to the whole home design scheme to minimize consumptive habits enabled by technology.
Considerations for your plan…
- Define your creator identity. If you don’t have one this is the time to look inwards and think about what brings joy
- Make a list of tools and resources needed in your designated space whether it be a corner near a window for natural light or an outdoor garden shed, there are a variety of possibilities
- Recognizing this is not a sanctuary for relaxation it is a workspace! As such, colours that enliven us from the warm colour family of red, orange and yellow in a realistic quantity can be part of the palette.
- From deep rich tones to natural textures, you can create a welcoming and energizing space
- From availability of natural light from a window to full spectrum task lighting, your space must include supportive lighting
- Much is spoken of the need to improve IAQ (indoor air quality) for our health and the installation of air freshening plants such as Boston Fern, Snake Plant, Golden Pothos and many more will help
- Note these same houseplants will also help to combat electronic pollution from all the electronic gadgets which emit harmful EMFs (electro magnetic frequencies) My suggestion is to have very little of these items in your creative space
- Start with a Vision board of what your goals are for each project. You can dedicate a wall with references to inspirations and update it as you go along
